Upcoming “Mountains to Shore” Concert – 129th Irrigation Festival
It’s that time of year again – the kick-off to summer on the north Olympic Peninsula!! The band is pleased to present it’s first concert of summer 2024 on Sunday May 5th as a part of the 129th Sequim Irrigation Festival.
Join the festivities during Crazy Callen Weekend that include Family Fun Days and the Innovative Arts & Crafts Show. Explore the festival grounds with vendors and food trucks at the James Center for the Performing Arts (506 N Blake Ave, Sequim WA). Complete your Sunday afternoon by finding your preferred spot on the lawn for the start of the Band’s offering at 3PM. OPUS – a local ukulele choir will lead the audience with familiar tunes. Sequim City Band takes the stage at 3:30PM for it’s “Mountains to Shore” concert.
Musical entrées will include selections from Avatar: The Way of the Water, American Riversongs including Shenandoah, and a nod to Cinco de Mayo with Little Mexican Suite, Mvt. 3.

BAND RECEIVES 2023 GOVERNOR’S ARTS & HERITAGE AWARD

The Washington State Arts Commission has announced the honorees of the 2023 Governor’s Arts & Heritage Awards. The nine honorees’ work spans glasswork, music education, community murals, and more. Established in 1966, the Governor’s Arts & Heritage Awards are the highest honor bestowed by the Governor’s office for accomplishments in arts and culture.
Sequim City Band (Organization Award) was established in 1992 as the only community band on the North Olympic Peninsula. Sequim City Band performs up to 10 free concerts each year, promoting musical expression opportunities to students and senior citizens alike and enriching the lives of attendees. The Band attracts members ranging from high-school aged members to octogenarians and demonstrates exceptional commitment to and engagement with their local community.
“These awards are a true community celebration,” said Karen Hanan, Executive Director of ArtsWA. “Nominations poured in from across the state with a clear message: Washington is home to outstanding artists, organizations, and culture bearers that deserve to stand up and be recognized. Their work enriches our communities and enlivens the entire state.”
The Governor’s Arts & Heritage Awards will be presented on November 15, 2023 at the Governor’s Residence in Olympia, WA.

JAMES CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS – Phase II
In 2020, Sequim City Band used monies it had saved and earmarked for the construction of a rehearsal hall to develop a construction plan. The band desperately needed a space that would be large enough to accommodate a 75+ member symphonic wind ensemble and provide a proper acoustical environment for a large band. Architectural plans were drawn up and a capital campaign was initiated. The campaign included many grant applications and an appeal to the public to support the project. Progress on those fronts allowed the band to proceed with the permitting process. Construction began the first week of October 2022. The band’s rehearsals were temporarily held at the Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church during the almost 7 months of construction. The first rehearsal in the new rehearsal hall was Wednesday April 19th.
Sequim City Band is happy to be back at the James Center for the Performing Arts – the band’s summer venue on the outdoor performance stage.
