As always, admission is [...]]]> You know summer must be close by when the Sequim City Band kicks off its first outdoor concert of the season.

On Sunday, May 20th at 3 pm the amazing group of 60-some local musicians will entertain you at the James Center For the Performing Arts, adjacent to Carrie Blake Park. As always, admission is free. Whether you are new to the Band’s performances or a seasoned regular, you will be highly entertained by the rousing, joyful noise the volunteer musicians produce under the direction of Sanford Feibus.

The afternoon’s concert will showcase the Band’s signature marches, including “Nobles of the Mystic Shrine”, “National Fencibles March”, and “Royal Welch Fusiliers”, all by John Philip Sousa, “Sir Galahad” by K.L. King and “Brighton Beach March” by William Latham. Opening the performance will be “King’s Crest Overture” by Lennie Niehaus, a majestic yet invigorating piece to set the mood for the delights ahead.

You will get to hear the talents of featured soloists such as Siri Hiltz, saxophone, in “When I Fall in Love”, featured in the motion picture “Sleepless in Seattle.” The entire flute section has a chance to blow you away in “Flight of the Flutes” by J.D. Ployhar. Colleen Montoya, flute; Tyler Benedict, tuba; Dean McLean, Doug Bedinger, Tony Bush, trombone; and Bob Hagan, trumpet will all be taking a turn in “Senor Cadera” by Len Orcino, a spicy Latin Funk composition to get your hips swaying in those lawn chairs.

Also included are “Selections From Chicago”, music from the hit Broadway show and movie that includes favorites such as “All That Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango.” Be taken back to your TV watching youth with “Salute to Television” featuring themes from Masterpiece Theater, M*A*S*H*, The Alfred Hitchcock Show, The Late Show, The Flintstones, and a little teaser of Bonanza.

There is something for everyone, so pack your sunglasses, lawn chairs, perhaps a picnic basket and enjoy the show.

The Sequim City Band has monthly outdoor concerts from May through September on the third Sunday of the month at 3 pm. Regular practices on Monday evenings from 7 to 9 pm are held at the James Center For the Performing Arts in the Swisher Rehearsal Hall located at 563 N Rhodefer Road. We did our annual all band photo after our successful June concert.    Without a ladder this year, we had to stitch the photo together to get everyone in.  The band is getting big.
